This shoot was commissioned by the brand Hello Guppy, a Japanese Cuisine Cafe. It was inspired by Japanese pop art. It allowed me to play with vibrant colours which was something new in my food photography at that time.
In the first place, the idea was the break the myth that Japanese food is intimidating and the have a light hearted approachable look and feel. The range of pan Asian dishes and the playful brief allowed me to have that creative freedom to execute it to the fullest.
Hello Guppy is the Olive Group’s light-hearted, all-day Japanese Café with a vibe that’s straight out of new Japan. For example, Tuna nacho pizza. Chicken Katsu Sandwich. Wings and drumlettes. Donburi. Ramen burgers and bowls.
Similarly, it aims to break the myth that Japanese food is intimidating, fish focussed and expensive. Above all, the menu is deliciously approachable and brunchy. Then there’s the bar, which is curiously adventurous, and stocked with drinks that go down.
